Objectives

The main objectives of the project were to interact between culture and art enthusiasts of different generations from the 3 European partner countries, to share pedagogical and artistic experiences, to practice a common language of art and to find inspiration in the local culture and traditions of the cooperating countries. In the light of the above, our project aimed to promote local artistic expression as a link between adults, with a special focus on older people, on a local and international level.

Background

The social distance and lock-down periods triggered by COVID-19 accelerated digital transformation, but people who lacked either tools or digital skills, such as older learners (55+), were marginalised because they were unable to fully participate in online workshops. They were thus excluded from learning opportunities. The enforced isolation only reinforced the feeling of loneliness among older people who were already more socially isolated, as pointed out in many reports. In addition, the consortium organisations, as well as their partners, experienced a sharp decline in seniors' interest in live classes after the end of the online class period. During a number of meetings, we considered how to reintegrate older people into the lifelong learning and social life path. We decided to develop programmes of cultural activities, as culture is key to building social cohesion and plays a key role in promoting the coexistence of different generations. Participation in cultural activities is a proven tool for promoting equality and empowering both individuals and communities.
