The main aim of this project was to exchange best practices in the context of an active approach for tolerance and social inclusion, in the field of ethnic, religious and physical diversity. Especially: - understanding the importance of diversity in the youth environment; - sensitising youth to the difference they meet in their environment; - developing empathy; - increasing the ability to analyse and evaluate the reality around us; - disseminating attitudes of tolerance and openness among students and teachers.
The focus of the project activities was the promotion and dissemination of social inclusion, cultural diversity and tolerance in education. The increasing social, ethnic and religious diversity in Europe creates both opportunities and challenges for entire societies. According to forecasts, social diversity will continue to increase. At the same time, recent Eurostat surveys show that intolerance and social exclusion are on the rise and that some social groups feel alienated. This leads to cases of social tension and unrest. Education has a key role to play in preparing societies to deal with these phenomena. It also plays an important role in the political socialisation of European citizens. Addressing ethnic, religious, social, health and other forms of diversity is a critical aspect of education. A culturally and socially sensitive educational approach has the potential to effectively promote the inclusion of people from different social groups. Thus meeting the challenge of building tolerance in individual European countries.
