Objectives

The objectives this project has fulfilled to the full extent were defined as follows: 1. Raising professional competences of staff working with adults at risk of exclusion as for innovative methodologies for promoting knowledge and skills related to SDGs as a way of enhancing social activism and civic engagement 2. Empowering adults to become actively involved citizens able to advocate for changes towards more sustainable living in their local communities as well as on the national/European levels 3. Promoting new educational approaches to sustainability and activism through development of tangible project results developed as follows: • Activisms for Sustainable Living: training package for educators • Activism for Sustainable Living: online course for adult learners

Background

The core aim of the project was to raise awareness on sustainable living generally and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in particular. The main motivation to conduct the project activities was to promote new ways of thinking of sustainability and to explore how knowledge about SDGs can help adult learners at risk of exclusion live more meaningful, balanced, healthy and active lives. The main needs we wanted to address were the observed lack of knowledge among both adult learners at risk and staff members working with them concerning sustainability, SDGs, activism, and active social involvement. Through our activities we to not only equipped our main target groups with comprehensive knowledge on sustainability, but most importantly we have empowered them to take action in their local communities and beyond, becoming change makers also on the national/European levels. The core values behind our project were defined as social engagement and active citizenship – we believe that individuals regardless of their educational/social/economic background have a right to take part in shaping cultural, social, and political realities around them, but to do so, they need to be supported and equipped with knowledge and tools.
