The intention of the project implementers is to fill the knowledge gap in the area of Sustainable Design and Process in Textiles for Higher Education. The condition of the textile and clothing industry and related industries does not look optimistic in the context of care for the natural environment. Therefore, it is necessary to raise awareness of the environmental effects of this industry. But most importantly, innovative solutions and directions of action must be developed so that this industry becomes less carcinogenic for the industry and the end user receives a safe product of high quality. Students are guided through the most important issues helpful in understanding the complexity of the textile and clothing industry. The prepared materials show a whole series of possibilities that can be used in the education process and in business by planning and developing sustainable development patterns in textiles. The GreenTEX project is about innovative teaching materials in the field of Sustainable Design and Process in Textiles, the materials are available on the multimedia platform Sustainable BOOSTER in Textiles.
The aim of the project is to undertake various types of educational activities in the area of Sustainable Design and Process in Textile. It is necessary to change the awareness and approach to this important topic. Future textile designers who will create new products and solutions for the textile and clothing industry, and for others that use textile products (medicine, transport, hygiene industry, or protective equipment) must have full knowledge and awareness of how to create new solutions in line with the goals of sustainable development. The textile and clothing industry is responsible for the emission of around 2 to 3 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. This industry is on the same list of the largest global emitters of greenhouse gases as energy, transport and food manufacturing. At the same time, the production of textiles and footwear consumes a great deal of water, and the cultivation of cotton used in the garment industry requires intensive pesticide use and degrades soil. All those negative aspects should be improved in coming years. Deep knowledge & case studies with real challenges in this area must be provided by the higher education institutions, including those that carry research in the textile field.
