The implementation of the project made it possible to achieve the main goal: to change the eating habits and increase physical activity of students aged 9 - 14, and to raise the awareness of students and their parents about healthy and active lifestyles during the project. Through the implementation of the project and joint international activities, the partner schools have changed the eating habits of their students and motivated them to spend more of their free time outdoors in sports, games and hiking. In addition, the implementation of the project changed the attitude of parents, who became aware of the importance of proper and regular nutrition and physical activity for the young developing body. Other goals include: shaping key competencies; increasing students' interest in regional cuisine; managing leisure time; expanding cooperation with partners and establishing lasting friendships; shaping a positive image of the school in the country and EU countries; shaping pro-European attitudes; learning about other cultures; developing and implementing innovative methods; raising awareness of the benefits of participation in EU projects; creating a modern environment inside the school.
Children's poor eating habits have been one of the major public health problems for several years, which can lead to many diseases such as obesity. In addition to poor eating habits, reduced physical activity is an extremely important factor in increasing the risk of obesity. In the age of the Internet, game consoles and television in a world full of unhealthy and processed food, fewer and fewer children choose to spend their free time actively. Instead of going for a walk, they choose the next episode of their favorite TV series or passing the next level in a game. The schools implementing the project wanted to change the attitudes of both students and their parents. Together, they wanted to show students that “slow food” (local and traditional dishes; the way food is produced; promoting a culture of eating healthy food; buying locally sourced food made with traditional recipes) is trendy and can be a great alternative to the human-destroying “junk food” culture. Complementing the idea of “slow food” is a healthy, active lifestyle, which can provide students with an excellent way to spend free time outdoors together with their peers.
