Even in modern workplaces that emphasize purpose, diversity, and work-life flexibility, well-developed soft skills remain crucial. Despite organizational progress, employees need effective teamwork, motivation, and problem-solving abilities. GENQUEST focused on developing these transversal skills, considered basic competences for employability, which Gen Z often lacks. The project aimed to support young learners in acquiring soft skills for sustainable and meaningful employment. WebQuests were chosen for their inquiry-oriented nature, promoting collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The format supported the development of key skills while creating authentic learning experiences aligned with Gen Z's interests. By bridging the gap between Gen Z and labor market needs, GENQUEST aims to enhance soft skills, fostering independence in learning and empowering youth for social, civic, and professional success.
In the digital age, human interaction diminishes, impacting Generation Z (born 1995-2010). As "digital natives," they lack essential soft skills for the modern workplace, hindering employability. A McDonald's study emphasizes soft skills' value (problem-solving, teamwork, communication), crucial for colleagues. Gen Z often acquires these skills on the job, missing them in traditional education. While hard skills remain necessary, 82% of organizations find soft skills more crucial, according to LinkedIn's Global Talent Trend Survey. Gen-Quest, focusing on "the Big 5 Domains" (Task Performance, Emotional Regulation, Collaboration, Open-Mindedness, Engaging With Others), aims to develop active learning resources using the WebQuest methodology to support Gen Z and youth workers in cultivating these vital skills.
