Background

The Fernão do Pó School Grouping is a school campus with all teaching levels, from Pre-School to High School. With regard to Secondary Education, the school offers scientific humanistic courses in the areas of Science and Technology, Economics, Arts, Languages and Literature and professional courses in Environmental and Rural Tourism, Cookery/Pastry, Restaurant/Bar and Sport. These courses confer a level 4 qualification (secondary level education + professional certificate). As the only provider of Vocational Education and Training in the city for the last 10 years, this school has been a crucial entity for improving students' qualifications and offering real educational and cultural opportunities to minimize the lack of equity present in the community. The Grouping has about 1600 students in total in the different cycles of education. 115 students between the ages of 15 and 19 attend Professional Courses, some of which have challenging profiles, and require the constant adaptation of inclusive measures, since a high percentage of students have a fragile socioeconomic profile, inducing a risk of dropping out.
