Background

The Escola Profissional Cândido Guerreiro (EPCG) is located at Alte, in a rural area of the Algarve, within the municipality of Loulé, in a low-density area. It has been dedicated to the professional teaching since 1992, mainly in the areas of education and training in Tourism, Commerce and Food Industries. It also runs Education and Training Courses (CEF) at basic level. The school's educational project is guided by values of rigour and excellence and aims to stimulate and encourage the whole educational community to develop an enterprising and innovative spirit. These objectives are achieved through practical activities, simulated practices, on-the-job training and others, in order to provide students with important skills for entering the labour market and for lifelong learning. This project was aimed at final-year students of the Tourism Technician professional course, who would gain with this experience an added opportunity to get their first job. Many pupils come from disadvantaged inner areas, so this school plays an important role in creating equal conditions of access to training and schooling for these young people, creating conditions for them to develop transversal and technical skills .
