Internationalisation is a priority for the three institutions that are part of the UNorte International consortium: University of Minho (UMinho), University of Porto (U.Porto) and University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) that joined efforts in order to promote the institutions in a growing competitive academic world and make a considerable effort to consolidate their international dimension. The creation of the UNorte International consortium allowed UMinho, U.Porto and UTAD, within the scope of their autonomy and institutional independence, to benefit from a reinforcement of joint articulation in areas considered of mutual interest, namely in terms of mobility projects, research projects and joint representation in international networks. The consortium also aimed to jointly promote the Northern Region as a reference area in the field of higher education and research. The consortium considers that transfer of knowledge is a key element in higher education and for that reason it is very important to promote the mobility of teaching and non-teaching staff within Europe in order to internationalise institutions and staff curricula belonging to the three institutions.
