The main group targeted with the outputs were HE teachers in STEM-related fields, who gained knowledge and acquired the skills and competence needed to introduce LTFS (and its topics) into their regular teaching portfolios and activities. FIT4FUTURE aimed at an innovative curriculum at European HEIs in STEM by adding the lacking long-term perspective to strategic management teaching and fostering the future employability of students with developed skills in high-tech companies. Students were targeted as the final beneficiaries. Students in STEM-related fields were trained. As stated before, relying on trend analysis alone was not enough, and companies, especially in the high-tech sector, needed professionals who could develop LTFSs. FIT4FUTURE allowed HE teachers to provide their students (whether in bachelor, master, or specialization courses) with training in a new field and methodology important for developing sustainable long-term strategies. This enabled students to make sense of long-term trends, which they could use to engage meaningfully with companies.
Companies in the high-tech sector must innovate constantly to remain competitive. Relying solely on trend analysis is insufficient due to uncertainties from long-term technological, societal, and cultural changes. Higher Education (HE) focuses on short to mid-term strategies, but far-future strategic decisions need a robust long-term technology future scenario (LTFS) development methodology. Developing LTFSs for 10-20 years helps companies anticipate industry shifts and validate business innovation ideas. High-tech companies require HE curricula that provide a reliable framework for LTFS to support long-term strategy making. FIT4FUTURE, aligned with the 2021 ERASMUS+ programme, aims to stimulate innovation and bridge Europe's knowledge and skills gap. It is crucial to design student-centered curricula to meet labor market needs and equip HEI personnel to teach LTFS methodologies, preparing future technologists and engineers for sustainable competitive advantage. FIT4FUTURE trained HE teachers online in LTFS, enabling curriculum design that includes LTFS through a transdisciplinary approach, enhancing HE teachers' digital skills and competencies, and addressing gaps in long-term strategy making.
