Objectives

As the largest youth organization of youth representation in Guimarães, we had as our objective the power and duty to give young people an international and European horizon in order to provide them with a life opportunity that will certainly open them up and enable a very strong learning component and open their horizons, motivation and life goals. We wanted this non-formal education to endow young people with characteristics and qualities, as it is the best way to prepare them for a real insertion in the labor market and to help them have a more humane, social and tolerant view of the world. We wanted to make our young people more active, but we also wanted them to better understand the world around them, particularly taking into account the situation of refugees. Therefore, our objective is to help instill some values in young people, community and European values such as inclusion, tolerance, respect and the practice of active and enlightened citizenship. Finally, we wanted to be a promoting and leveraging factor for the projects that young people have and so often fall to the ground due to lack of support. We wanted to be that support and we wanted to get young people to see and deal with other realities and with that to be able to help form and educate our own young people living closely with young people from other cultures and other realities. We want to make young people more active, aware and endow them with an active and participatory citizenship. In relation to our objectives, they were also to provide our organization with a stronger international dimension and, above all, greater training of our technicians, employees and volunteers so that we are able to do more and better in order to change lives. of the people we deal with. We want to continue to be a youth association, but one that is stronger and more resilient and equipped with mechanisms and responses that can be a true response to youth problems and issues. Being able to be that answer on a stage where many promise and so many fail, was one of our goals. We also wanted to be able to change mindsets, make young people more active, participatory and aware, make them more dynamic and promoters of their own future. Breaking the chains of family poverty, giving them positive references of what they can be one day, with effort, dedication and merit, they can be. We also wanted to be a lever to minimize problems related to lack of youth motivation and participation, absenteeism and early school dropout, youth unemployment, job insecurity, and provide answers to problems of family breakdown, chronic poverty, increased risk of social exclusion. We also wanted to respond to the various challenges in terms of climate change, phenomena of racial discretion, homophobia, gender inequality, and above all to be a complementary response to other services and to be where these same services often cannot, providing close support and work peers that otherwise would not be possible. Implementing this project also made it possible to act on the causes that lead so many young people to problems of delinquency, vandalism, drug use and trafficking, abuse of substances such as alcohol and drugs, giving them notions of civility and social behavior, keeping them away from populism and ideologies extreme right or left, minimizing phenomena of radicalization and instead promoting tolerance and community and European values such as inclusion, tolerance, respect and the practice of an active and enlightened citizenship.
