The FLAVOURS OF EUROPE project aimed to develop high-quality training materials for low-skilled adults, especially women, in rural areas affected by population decline or economic crises due to COVID-19. By 2023, the project sought to create a new curriculum, enhancing the skills of over 800 adults, focusing on inclusive community development through gastronomy heritage tourism. Specific objectives included improving competences of 800 adults in 2023 from rural areas, providing courses in basic digital skills, entrepreneurship, legal frameworks, and digital marketing. Support for 400 women in poor rural communities aimed to transform traditional cooking practices into sustainable tourism businesses, fostering connections between communities and the private sector by 2023. The initiative also aimed to support eight local tourism environments by creating a 2023 training kit for over 80 stakeholders. This kit focused on tailored education, skills development, and training for adults in deprived rural areas. It emphasized inclusive community development through tourism promotion and evaluating human resources within communities. The goal was to empower communities for better resource and business management opportunities.
The Covid-19 pandemic has significantly impacted rural areas, exacerbating challenges due to limited financial resources, inaccessible health services, and increased isolation. Natural and cultural heritage play a crucial role in social cohesion, local development, and mental wellbeing. The project addresses the pandemic's effects on impoverished rural areas, particularly women, emphasizing their role in resilient rural development. It promotes a broader vision of rural communities as hubs for development based on heritage, creativity, and social inclusion. Business education, digital skills, and leadership training are key for the economic empowerment of women in these areas. The project leverages tourism, a sector employing more women, encouraging them to establish local gastronomy businesses for inclusive community development. The legal framework in partner countries allows the setup of Local Gastronomic Points, offering a unique opportunity for rural women. The Flavours of Europe project addresses their educational needs, providing personalized entrepreneurship training, digital competences, and promoting inclusive community development.
