Objectives

The primary objective was to empower a group of 50 adults with intellectual disabilities, enabling them to lead autonomous personal, professional, and social lives. This empowerment was to be achieved through a process-oriented methodology, including regular support meetings, training sessions, and utilizing the outcomes of the project to enhance their capabilities and independence. Another key objective was to promote social inclusion for the 50 adults with mental disabilities participating in the project. This was to be accomplished through the implementation of specific support and educational activities tailored to their needs, facilitating their integration into various social spheres. Additionally, the project aimed to enhance the competencies of 50 practitioners from the five participating organizations in the field of supporting people with intellectual disabilities. The focus was on equipping these practitioners with the skills and knowledge necessary to promote autonomy and independent living among individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Background

We applied for the CALMD project because we recognized the pressing need to address the significant obstacles and barriers faced by people with mental disabilities in their daily lives. These individuals often lacked appropriate guidance and support tailored to their talents, abilities, preferences, and needs, both in personal experiences and professional endeavors. Aligned with the objectives of the European Commission's strategy, our project aimed to progress towards ensuring the full inclusion and participation of all persons with disabilities in Europe, irrespective of their background or characteristics. To address these challenges, we proposed to introduce and implement new and innovative methodologies drawn from applied psychology, career orientation, coaching, and gamification. These methodologies were integrated into a comprehensive kit designed to be accessible, user-friendly, and cost-effective. Our project envisioned an itinerary where adults with mental disabilities could articulate their personal plans concerning social integration and employment. Through practical tools tailored to their specific needs, individuals were guided and empowered to make their own choices, gain emotional stability.
