Objectives

Theatre encourages active participation and engagement from students. The optional theatre course "Theatre - Learning through Play" and the DVD with recorded plays that can be useful for teaching English aims to train key competences by making links between similar activities from different areas, starting from the teaching of English and proposing multidisciplinary approaches. Students had the opportunity to improve in a wide range of areas such as self-confidence, self-esteem, self-expression, communication, collaboration, interpersonal skills, and aesthetic awareness and, last but not least, imagination. We can sum up all of the above in one word; we can say "communication"! Some other important benefits of drama, theatre and the performing arts, especially for young people, are physical, emotional and social, and they help to develop a healthy appreciation of culture and the arts. Aspects of drama, especially improvisation, help young people understand how to assess situations, think outside the box and be more confident in unfamiliar situations. Pupils learned to trust their ideas and abilities and appreciate arts and culture - because it has brought joy into their lives.

Background

The starting point of the project was the conversation between the Romanian coordinator and the Turkish partner, who later because of some misunderstandings within the group withdrew from the project. The two partner school proceeded to look for other partner schools with the help of social media platforms. All partner schools are quite different; they are located in different types of cities, different cultures, environments and socio-economic situations.Discussions with the teachers who taught these pupils revealed the need to improve the motivation of language learners by using modern methods and the importance of a learner-centered approach to learning, with a focus on developing communication skills. The need to find a teaching strategy to develop students' self-confidence, socio-emotional skills and pro-social behavior was also addressed by our project, which promotes modern teaching techniques, European educational values and cooperation. The main theme of the project was "Theatre" and its role and contribution in improving pupils' self-confidence, practicing English as a foreign language, developing pupils' creative and artistic skills, group cooperation, environmental protection, healthy living, consumer habits and lifestyle
