Objectives

The ReFashion project aim was to offer a tailored educational program for SMEs, delivered digitally and free of charge, alongside a Consumer Guide accessible at a click, designed to inform and encourage sustainable consumption habits. This initiative seeks to bridge the gap in vocational education and training (VET) regarding sustainability in the fashion and textiles sector. Specific objectives included: Developing new VET educational programme and create work-based learning opportunities in line with the need for green skills and digital transition, expected in the fashion and textile industry. Increasing cooperation between educational institutions and businesses aimed at promoting work-based learning in all its forms and supporting VET learners in acquiring and developing skills and key competences in fashion and textiles sustainability, fostering employability in the sector. Introducing open education and innovative digital practices, making education available for all and facilitating new and innovative learning methods, by developing the ReFashion online educational program and a new learning source, the Guide that will enable behavioral changes for individual preferences, contributing to changing consumption habits.

Background

The fashion and textile industry, a significant global polluter, grapples with sustainability concerns amidst the EU's push for change. However, small businesses, lacking specialized education in sustainable fashion, face challenges complying with the impending EU Textiles Directive. Despite Europe's €422 billion apparel market, textile waste remains a pressing issue, particularly in countries like Romania where vocational education on sustainability is scarce. Italy offers fiscal incentives for SMEs transitioning to green practices, contrasting with Greece's limited sustainability initiatives and the absence of systemic solutions for textile waste. Addressing the educational gap in sustainable fashion is crucial for fostering industry-wide sustainability efforts.
