Design Your Future – DYF was an innovative Training Course organised by Vega Youth Center and its partner organisations. The program aimed to address the pressing need for supporting young people in developing and enhancing their skills, as well as actively involving them in the process of generating innovative solutions to social and community-based challenges. The initiative emerged in response to the uncertainties and pessimism experienced by young people due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Vega Y.C. and its partners recognized the significant responsibility placed on youth workers, educators, and youth work providers to empower young individuals with the resilience, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities needed to navigate societal issues and shape a brighter future. The program emphasized the importance of fostering optimism, empathy, and agility among young people, emphasizing their personal growth and readiness to tackle emerging challenges. It proposed to youth organizations to adopt a "designer's mindset" strategy and attitudes. This designer's mindset encompassed three main characteristics: optimism, viewing problems as opportunities for creativity; empathy, understanding and addressing the emotional needs of others in a community-oriented manner, and creativity, essential for problem-solving, particularly in crisis or challenging environments. The overall aim of DYF T.C. was to strengthen youth workers' competences with tools and ideas based on innovative methodologies, enabling them to work more efficiently with young people in their communities. The specific objectives of the program were: 1. To familiarise participants with the concept of Design Thinking and strengthen their understanding of its direct influence on youth empowerment and entrepreneurial attitude. 2. To develop a designer's mindset (optimism, creativity, and empathy) that could help adapt in crisis situations and foster a community-oriented entrepreneurial spirit. 3. To enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovative skills in participants by introducing the Design Thinking methodology and non-formal learning tools. 4. To equip youth workers with a set of creative tools and methods related to youth empowerment, personal development, empathy, creativity, self-initiative, and innovativeness. 5. To provide a meeting point for organizations and their representatives to exchange information, develop cooperation, and establish international partnerships for future collaboration. 6. To create an inclusive learning environment for attendees to share their best practices, inspire and motivate one another. 7. To increase participants' knowledge of the Erasmus+ program, its new possibilities, and how to best utilize it to support their organization's capacity and empower young people. The project aligned with the Youth Strategy 2019-2027 and the integrated European Youth Goals, with its main goal being to "Engage, Connect, Empower" for a values-based youth work practice, by building a more skilled and competent workforce in Europe. Through the utilization of non-formal education tools, as well as methods from Design Thinking, Personal Development Plans, Storytelling, and more, participants had the opportunity to develop and improve their competences. They also engaged in exchanging practices, ideas, and methods, and reflected on how to transfer and adapt these learnings to their communities and youth groups.
