Objectives

The main objective of the Erasmus+ project HEAL-in-ONE is to improve the quality of online and hybrid learning and teaching in applied agricultural sciences through the implementation of active learning and teaching (ALT) methodologies. By doing so, the project aims to enhance student engagement, foster the development of subject-specific and 21st-century competencies, and ensure better alignment between learning outcomes, teaching strategies, and assessment methods. HEAL-in-ONE also seeks to strengthen teacher competencies in using digital tools and modern pedagogical approaches, as well as to support institutions in creating sustainable structures, such as the Centers for Quality Improvement. Furthermore, the project aims to modernize study programs by integrating ALT strategies and improving course design, delivery, and evaluation processes. Through international collaboration, training events, digital tool development, and dissemination of results, the project strives to build a vibrant learning community, ensure wider stakeholder engagement, and contribute to a more innovative, inclusive, and future-ready higher education in the field of applied agricultural sciences.

Background

The idea for applying to the Erasmus+ HEAL-in-ONE project stemmed from the urgent need to enhance the quality of online and hybrid teaching in applied agricultural sciences. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed significant gaps in digital preparedness, teaching methods, and student engagement across partner institutions. Teachers lacked competencies in using Active Learning and Teaching (ALT) methodologies and digital tools effectively, while students faced difficulties in actively participating and achieving expected learning outcomes in the virtual environment. Traditional methods proved inadequate in fostering practical, hands-on skills essential in applied disciplines. There was a clear need to implement ALT methodologies, improve digital infrastructure, and support both educators and students with resources that ensure inclusive, engaging, and competency-based learning. HEAL-in-ONE was designed to meet these challenges by creating a framework for ALT, offering training programs, developing digital tools, and supporting curriculum improvement to make higher education in agriculture more resilient, innovative, and aligned with societal and labour market needs.
