The project aimed to address dropout prevention and promote inclusion in vocational education and training (VET) through: a) Embedding dropout prevention and inclusion into schools' quality assurance systems using the EQAVET framework. Indicator 8 stresses inclusion and prevention of dropout. b) Develop a self-assessment tool and training programs to equip educators with actionable skills and encourage consistent practices. The approach assumes continuous self-assessment will motivate schools to follow up on their actions to prevent dropout. c) Based on the self-assessment results (QuickScan), the schools develop new actions into routine operations to ensure long-term impact through quality cycles and continuous follow-up. Addressing inequalities for disadvantaged groups, such as rural, migrant, and minority students, improve their outcomes. As a broader goal, the project aimed to reduce youth unemployment and social exclusion, contributing to a more substantial labour market and better social cohesion. Policy recommendations were developed to help local/regional school authorities better assist schools.
There were several reasons for starting the project “EQAVET4INCLUSIONS”. The main and most important reasons were: 1. All participating partners have noticed the negative consequences of dropout, especially in the VET sector. The negative impacts have been at the individual level for young people and at social and economic levels. Many of the dropout youngsters were doomed to long-term unemployment and social disintegration. 2. Many important initiatives were taken regarding those who already had dropped out, but there were insufficient efforts to prevent dropout at the initial stages. 3. Even initiatives aiming to prevent dropout were not sustainable after the project life cycle despite positive results. Based on the above, the partnership realised that any fundamental approach should be included in VET schools' quality assurance to reapproach the issue continuously and be followed up. Since indicator 8 in the European Quality Assurance for VET “EQAVET” addresses inclusion, the project saw an opportunity to develop a school quality approach for inclusion and prevention of drop-out.
