Objectives

The project aimed to train adult educators in formal and non-formal adult education using the soft method of theatre to promote social inclusion, motivation, working with vulnerable target groups and problem solving in group situations. The project aimed to design and develop a method of working in the field of theatre and thus increase and empower the number of adult educators trained in theatre work with vulnerable target groups. We wanted to increase the involvement and activities of vulnerable target groups in the local environment and improve their self-esteem, motivation and relationship with the environment. We wanted to offer better quality education in our programmes, to introduce new and interesting methods of theatre work in education and thus to ensure a more active participation of participants from vulnerable target groups in education. We also wanted to empower adult educators to work with vulnerable target groups and encourage them to use new approaches in their teaching.

Background

Our organization faces many needs related to the social inclusion of vulnerable target groups in education. Vulnerable target groups are less involved in education and activities in the local environment. Adult educators do not have sufficient competences to engage vulnerable target groups in education in an interesting way using soft methods, content and didactic approaches. Fear, lack of understanding and poor knowledge of methods of working with vulnerable target groups also lead to a shortage and disinterest of staff educating vulnerable target groups. This also creates a need for training in working with vulnerable target groups for adult educators. In our organization we have a wide variety of vulnerable groups (Roma, older adults, long-term unemployed, immigrants, people with disabilities), which makes this need even greater. Theatre is an indirect tool for social inclusion, and through the project the adult educators learned more about the method of theatre for social integration and inclusion.
