Goal 1: A different opportunity for talented children from socially less encouraging environment to connect with their peers from abroad, to learn about their environment, culture, opportunities, inclusion in the school environment. Goal 2: Acquire lifelong competences, lifelong learning. Goal 3: Strengthen self-esteem, self-confidence and in one's areas of strength, and develop belonging to a small group as well as to the wider European area, being aware of one's own contribution as a responsible person. We have achieved our goals for both our pupils and educators. We wanted to gain as much experience as possible from the observation of teaching practice, concrete guidance and content and ideas that we could incorporate and implement in our school environment and school system.
We decided to start this project because we wanted to learn about a new, different approach to working with youth, who come from socially less encouraging environment and are at the same time identified as talented students according to the Slovenian Concept for Working with Talented Students. As part of the activities we organise every year for the talented students of our school, we have created an additional activity, the idea of an international exchange, which covers working with talented pupils, a new opportunity, developing social skills, lifelong learning, gaining experience, learning a language, socialising with peers from a foreign environment, empowerment and strengthening national identity, as well as awareness of belonging to the European area and strengthening European identity. At the same time, during the group exchange and later during the observation practice, we learned about different methods, techniques, ways, approaches and strategies of working with talented youth, who are included in the regular educational system. We have discovered what extra activities are offered to talented students abroad as part of their regular education, and how they are helped to develop their talents.
