Objectives

We wanted to enhance professional skills of partner school teachers starting from the museum objects. Our teachers always need uprgading their didactic and specific professional skills. Being subjected to international influences had to bring added value to our teachers' skills. We also wanted to improve the use of our museum during classroom activities as part of a motivational and skill learning strategy. Our second objective was to lay the basis for a common didactic use of musum objects in high school. By producing didactic materials in english we wanted to track and evaluate progress and see if it would be possible to help other schools to start a museum colection and/or use the museum objects as didactic means.

Background

Being a UNESCO school with a school museum with a vast collection of objects, we try to preserve these objects, to make the collection known to the public, but to find a didactic aspect for the objects as well. But how much can a museum be a pedagogical tool? Is it possible to insert it in the curricula? By working at an international level and communicating with teachers through precious Erasmus and other international experiences it became clear that this is a very interesting subject. We started a connection with three other schools also interested in the didactic and pedagogic aspects of a school museum. Through a brainstorming we called it COSMOS – Connection of School, Museum and Open Space, which represents the world of museum in school that can lead to a an “open space” a place where old objects and new ideas can communicate to give pupils motivation, a possibility to develop competences and be creative. The first step for this connection would be to have some mobilities, where we could try and implement some lessons linked to museum objects.
