With this project, we wanted to: - To increase students' and teachers' knowledge of the European Union, its institutions and common EU values. - Raise awareness among pupils and teachers about the different dimensions of environmental protection (waste management, natural resource management, protection of water and soil protection, sustainable mobility, self-sufficiency, bio-agriculture and eco-construction). - To learn about the systems for children with special needs in mainstream primary schools in EU countries and to transfer good practices between schools. - To learn about innovative methods of teaching English (CLIL) and improve English skills and consequently raise confidence in communicating in a foreign language among the pupils and teachers involved.
The Dr. Anton Trstenjak Negovo Primary School and the kindergarten provide primary school and pre-primary education. The school is located in the demographically deprived rural area of Slovenske gorice, in the municipality of Gornja Radgona. Despite its small size, we are recognised in the environment for the many projects and activities we offer to our pupils. Through our projects we pursue the goals of global citizenship, education for sustainable development, critical literacy and ethical responsibility and engagement. In recent years, we have seen an increase in the number of pupils with special needs, for whom the school provides individualised programmes and additional professional support. The proportion of these pupils is moving towards 1/3 of all pupils. In addition to the poorer cognitive abilities of some pupils, a less supportive family environment certainly contributes to the high proportion of pupils with special needs. The less supportive family environment, the greater distance from large centres certainly contribute to this. On the other hand, our environment offers exceptional opportunities for the development of organic farming and subsistence living. These were the starting points for our project.
