Objectives

By implementing the project, we wanted to increase the scope of school activities outside the classroom, in which students would use digital devices in a controlled and safe manner. Students, who find it difficult to express themselves in class, would be given space, support and confirmation that they can do more and better. We were led to this by the observations that despite the fact, we are a rural school, the students are slowly losing contact with nature, and they are not good at teamwork and connecting with younger or older classmates. For this reason, we wanted to start implementing school project day. In the next two years, we want a 20-30% increase of school lessons spent outside the classroom across the entire vertical. Due to the increasing number of students with autism spectrum disorder, we wanted to gain new knowledge and skills in the field of detection, adaptation, acceptance, and active inclusion of these students in work at school. We wanted to raise awareness among students, teachers, parents, and the local community about the importance of interculturality, through their active participation in the mobility itself and in activities related to dissemination.

Background

Students have been recently excessively exposed to the use of digital technology (especially during the COVID-19 pandemic), at the expense of schoolwork at home. They have become very skilled and efficient when working with digital devices, but at the expense of this, they have started to lose touch with nature. Analyses of the work of school teams at Podčetrtek Primary School showed that learning outside the classroom, supported by the aimed use of ICT, would increase students' self-confidence and their academic performance. The students themselves have also expressed the desire for this within the class lessons and at the meetings of school parliament. At the same time, we wanted to gain international experience in the field of sustainable development at the school level. The insights we came to after analysing the results of the SELFIE self-evaluation tool encouraged us to acquire new knowledge, skills and competencies in the field of interdisciplinary project work with the help of the ERASMUS+ GetOutdoorEd 2.0 project. The increased number of students with autism spectrum disorders directed us to search for examples of good practices also at foreign partner schools.
