The AWARE project was conceived with several strategic objectives aimed at addressing the multifaceted challenges of cybersecurity in the vocational education and training (VET) sector: - enhance cybersecurity skills - our primary goal was to significantly improve the cybersecurity skills among VET students, equipping them with the knowledge and competencies to effectively address digital security threats. - incorporate cybersecurity into VET curricula - we aimed to embed cybersecurity awareness and best practices as integral components of VET programmes, ensuring that cybersecurity education becomes a staple of vocational training. - strengthen SME security - by preparing a workforce adept in cybersecurity, we sought to enhance the digital defense mechanisms of SMEs, thereby contributing to the wider effort of safeguarding the digital economy. - promote a culture of cybersecurity awareness - we endeavoured to cultivate a culture of continuous cybersecurity awareness within the VET community, emphasizing the importance of proactive and preventive measures in digital practices.
We applied for the AWARE project to address a critical gap in cybersecurity awareness within vocational education and training (VET). Given the increasing number of cyber attacks, particularly against SMEs, and the evident lack of cybersecurity skills among VET students, our initiative aims to enhance digital resilience and preparedness. By integrating cybersecurity content into VET programmes, we seek to empower students and teachers with the necessary skills to navigate and secure digital environments effectively, ensuring they are well-equipped to meet the demands of the modern workforce. This gap not only leaves students unprepared for the challenges of the digital workforce but also poses a broader economic and security risk, especially to SMEs that are increasingly targeted by cyber-attacks. Our project aims to bridge this gap by developing elements of a specialized curriculum that integrates cybersecurity awareness and practices into the VET programmes, thereby enhancing the digital competence of future professionals. This initiative is crucial for fostering a resilient digital economy and safeguarding against the growing threat of cyber incidents.
