Objectives

The project relates to the European Youth Goal, Sustainable Green Europe '. Young people need to be exposed to these values & attitudes to be equipped for the challenges of our societies today. The ecovillage model demonstrates how a low-carbon lifestyle is possible while maintaining a high quality of life through social innovation. Studies on several ecovillages have shown their ecological footprint to be considerably lower than the national average, for example, A. Bocco, M. Gerace, S. Pollini, The Ecological Impact of Sieben Linden, Routledge, 2019. While governments taking action is vital to achieving large-scale changes, it needs to be complemented by bottom-up initiatives from civil society to promote awareness and willingness to make climate-friendly lifestyle choices on the individual and family levels. Ecovillages, in general, and the partners in this project strive to offer youth quality tools to address sustainability issues. Our ultimate goal was to address the burning issue of climate change and the need for more social cohesion, tolerance and respect. The 2018 IPCC special report on global warming states it needs immediate action and "far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society "to reach the goal of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1,5° above the pre-industrial level. By implementing this project, we empower young people to contribute to the much-needed societal changes by educating and informing them on sustainable lifestyle choices and becoming active citizens. The main project objective is to increase the quality and quantity of youth projects with sustainability as the core theme in ecovillages and other sustainability projects. The purposes of follow-up projects the youth workers created have common objectives: - to promote sustainable lifestyles among young people, oppose climate change and foster transition to a low-carbon and resilient society; - inspire young people to become active citizens; - advance young people's personal development. Objectives of our project: - strengthen the international dimension of youth activities around sustainability; - reinforce the role of ecovillages and sustainable initiatives centres and their youth workers and their organisations as a foundation for young people by inviting them through the creation of new sustainability youth projects, fostering young people's active involvement and participation. - improving the level of key competencies and skills of youth workers and with that also on the long term the competencies of young people. Essential aspects of ecovillages (social dimension of sustainability) are social skills, creative thinking and emotional intelligence. These aspects are relevant for the labour market, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, social inclusion and solidarity; - creating opportunities to network between partner organisations and others. Through carrying out projects together, peer-to-peer learning during the project, and getting to know each other work and exchanging experiences; - further develop non-formal and informal learning methods used throughout the activity and in the follow-up projects.
