By implementing the project, we aimed to achieve the main goal of the project, which is to contribute to the society effort to improve the quality of education of children whose mother tongue is different than the state language, and to contribute to the improvement of the quality of education of Slovak children living abroad. To achieve this goal, we set 5 specific objectives and defined activities and procedures to achieve these sub-goals, subordinated to the main goal: 1.development of a methodological manual and compilation of methodological recommendations, curriculum and syllabus directly linked to the textbook for children of foreigners and compatriots Aha, slovenčina! and compilation of a methodological guide to the workbook Svet okolo nás po slovensky for pre-school age, 2.creation of “Picture (communication) cards” as additional didactic material usable in kindergartens, primary schools, language schools and educational centers abroad, 3.development of the “Translation Dictionary of Basic Terms for Primary Schools” with 4 language versions, 4.testing of the developed methodological materials during the process of their creation, 5.dissemination of the project outputs: realization of the educational activity.
Every school year, the number of foreign children in Slovak primary schools increases. However, until recently, there were no high-quality educational publications for children that could be used in courses of Slovak as a second or foreign language. The situation is gradually changing, with a complete set of teaching materials for children in kindergartens and primary schools now available on the market. The Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic is reacting to the increasing number of children of foreigners in Slovakia. Thus, starting from the next school year, school attendance should also be compulsory for Ukrainian children, in Slovakia. Even though textbooks are already available on the Slovak market, practice has shown that not every teacher is able to take full advantage of the set of exercises offered by the textbook "Aha, slovenčina!" and the workbook for preschoolers "Svet okolo nás po slovensky". Therefore, our ambition was to complement the already finished project and to give teachers a methodological guide on how to work with the textbook and workbook. We also aimed to expand the offer with new supplementary educational aids.
