Objectives

The Main Element of Our Project and Our Starting Point Our project has been implemented due to the fact that young people constitute the social segment that is most affected by the products and services delivered to consumers through mass media and make unnecessary consumption. To briefly discuss the issue of consumption, which is the reason for creating our project, consumption is defined as acquiring, owning, using or destroying a product or service to satisfy a specific need. The concept of consumption culture is a concept used to express individual tastes, social values and lifestyles of consumers. In reality, consumption culture "corresponds to a culture in which consumers passionately desire, pursue and try to obtain goods and services for purposes such as seeking status, making a difference between others and seeking innovation, which are mostly useless". Consumption has become more of an indicator of social status and identity in modern societies; fashion products and new lifestyles offered by mass media have become a means of legitimising this tendency. In terms of the continuation of the system, especially the diversity and continuous consumption of goods and services are of vital importance. Therefore, various activities are carried out to constantly increase consumption and keep it alive. Urbanisation, mass media, advertisements, fashion, shopping places are the factors that spread the consumption culture. The idea of 'the more I produce and consume, the happier I will be' and the lifestyle indexed only to material consumption make today's people restless. As a matter of fact, studies are important in terms of showing the paradox between consumption frenzy and happiness. The fact that wealth and consumption above normal cannot make people more satisfied has been one of the most effective reasons for us to create a project on consumption. Excessive consumption -waste- has covered almost all areas of modern life style. Waste is the unwarranted, unmeasured and incalculable use of available resources and opportunities. The greed for consumption, which is a natural consequence of the wasteful economy, devours everything in a horrible way, leaving only insurmountable piles of waste and debris. In order to ensure the continuation of economic vitality, it wants to maintain the continuous production-consumption cycle. For this purpose, the masses are constantly made to feel that new needs are emerging through advertisements and new expenditure items are created. Then, the needs felt by the public are tried to be met rapidly through competitive production processes. As this vicious cycle is repeated, more production and more consumption are constantly encouraged. As a result, at this rate, natural resources become insufficient and unbearable. In this context, the purpose of writing this project is the development of consumption into a culture, the position of the youth facing the ideology of an evaluation on the effects of consumption culture on youth in many aspects in today's societies, the position of the youth in the face of this situation, the fact that consumption is a prestige and status indicator by becoming a means of pleasure and satisfaction of individuals in general and young people in particular, rather than a need satisfaction behaviour, the symbolic meanings produced by consumption with fashion, advertising, mass media, media and technology and the negative effects of consumption culture on youth. Our goals achieved with our project, which we have conducted with the aim of contributing to counteract all these situations: -Contributing to the individuals who become standardised by consuming consumption objects to realise this situation and to prefer to consume to live instead of living to consume, -Contributing to the reconsideration and improvement of the quality of the education provided in order to raise a youth that can stand against the consumption imposition brought by modernity, -Reducing waste and preventing double consumption, -Promotion of conscious consumption, -Teaching saving habits to young people, -Organising a general public campaign calling for austerity, -Continuation of awareness-raising and orientation activities to reduce consumption waste, -Carrying out awareness-raising and orientation activities to prevent waste in food products, -Carrying out awareness-raising and orientation activities for individual consumers within the scope of reducing waste in resource use, -Explanation of concepts related to waste, -Ranking of the types of waste, -Explanation of the causes of waste by giving examples, -Explanation of the damages caused by waste to family and country economy -Explanation of solutions to reduce waste -Promotion of virtues such as benevolence, humility, generosity, etc. at the individual level at the level of family, school, non-governmental organisations, -Raising awareness on waste and consumption culture.
