Gender inequality persists everywhere and stagnates social progress. Young people everywhere are being affected by gender issues all over the world, some less some more. They are subject to peer pressure, social exclusion, violence. These things cause low self-esteem, lack of confidence, stress and bullying. These problems are low-income levels, poor demographic structure, low employment and high levels of unemployment, a slower development process in the tertiary sector, weaknesses in skills and human capital, limited opportunities for women and young people, and lack of skills in the agricultural and the food processing industry. In addition to all these challenges, rural areas are more traditional and they have some gender-related challenges against women and young girls. Young women in their rural communities face particular gender-related challenges. Women in rural areas have much fewer opportunities than their urban counterparts. “Gender Equality in Rural Areas” was an Erasmus+ youth exchange that took place between 3rd and 10th December 2022 in Muş, Turkey. Genc Caba Association hosted with the support from the partner organisations from Sweden, Romania, Georgia and Azerbaijan. The youth exchange aimed to raise awareness of and to promote gender equality in rural areas among young people in an intercultural environment. The objectives of the youth exchange were: -To share the realities and experience on gender issues in rural areas in different European countries, -To discuss gender-related issues in rural areas (gender roles, discrimination, gender-based violence, harassment etc.), -To overcome gender-related stereotypes and prejudges from different cultures, races and religions, -To support intercultural learning and to improve understanding and tolerance around gender equality, -To discuss and analyse the challenges of young people on gender equality in rural areas and develop solutions, -To empower rural young people in achieving gender equality, -To articulate possibilities for mutual work and future collaboration as individuals, youth groups and organisation.
