According to TUIK's 2018 municipal waste statistics, it has been determined that 1395 municipalities that provide waste services among 1399 municipalities in Turkey collect 32 million 209 thousand tons of waste. While 67.2 percent was sent to landfills, 20.2 percent was sent to municipal landfills and 12.3 percent was sent to recycling facilities, 0.2 percent was disposed of by open burning, burial, dumping into a stream or land. The average daily amount of waste collected per person has been calculated as 1.16 kg and this number has been determined to be 1.36 kg for İzmir. However, it has been observed that there is an increase in plastic production and consumption due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The needs arising with the pandemic; This has resulted in an increase in global demand for personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves, gowns, and bottled hand sanitizers. According to the report published by the World Health Organization, it is estimated that 89 million medical masks are needed each month, along with 76 million gloves and 1.6 million safety glasses, during the efforts to stop the spread of the virus. Since most restaurants in Europe only offer take-out services, they have started offering delivery services using disposable plastic containers. With the increase in online shopping, the use of plastic in packaging has increased significantly. The production, consumption and disposal of additional single-use plastics have had greater impacts on the environment and climate, including increased air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, waste generation and the risk of litter. While single-use plastic products have played an important role in curbing the spread of COVID-19, increased demand for these substances in the shorter term has increased the EU's need to reduce plastic pollution and move towards a more sustainable and circular plastics system. Based on this, our project was designed to emphasize the role of young people in the work to be done to reduce the environmental pollution caused by the Covid-19 epidemic. The needs that arise in the society due to this problem; - Giving more space to waste bins, - Strengthening policies for recycling, - Raising awareness of young people about recycling activities - Taking a step in line with EU standards in order to increase the awareness of the young people around us about recycling, - Encouraging recycling efforts, - To raise awareness about the importance of the necessity of the materials used by people in daily life to be environmentally friendly products. Objectives of the Project; -To raise awareness about recycling by using informal methods, -To create an active participation by planning the project process together with young people -Not to use materials that will create waste during the project, -To develop the social and creative skills of young people with non-formal education methods, -To ensure the formation of entrepreneurial ideas in the field of recycling, -To support intercultural learning with recycling and environment, -To raise awareness about the separation of waste, -To create an infrastructure that will support the work to be done on a global scale in the future with the awareness to be provided to the youth - It has been determined as producing a solution with young people for a more livable environment.
