We wanted to achieve to ensure that students firstly gain awareness about their own tangible and intangible cultural heritage and to raise their level of awareness, to encourage students to interact with the peers from different cultures and to raise their awareness of the similarities between cultures and the common heritage of Europe ,to enable students to build a bridge between cultures by making use of cultural diversity and to recognise common values and to understand that cultural diversity is a richness that contributes to the common European heritage ,to revise the information described by Evliya Çelebi in the light of today and to arouse students' sense of curiosity by making comparisons between civilisation of that period and that of present,to enable students to shed light on the cultures of the places travelled, perhaps unknown or forgotten by the people of the places visited,to improve students' communication skills and foreign language skills by communicating with individuals of different languages, religions and cultures,to create awareness about environment and climate change by comparing past environmental conditions with present ones, to develop students' digital skills, to reach more people by this project.
The fact that our students have insufficient knowledge on issues such as cultural heritage and European common heritage and that students are not sufficiently interested in such issues is sometimes revealed in lessons and activities. Based on this, according to the survey conducted in all partner schools, it was observed that 61,95 % of the students do not have sufficient knowledge and interest in historical and cultural heritage. As a result, more than half of the students at partner schools unfortunately aren’t aware of the cultural heritage and values, which lead us to apply for the project. On the other hand, globalisation, which is defined as an international integration arising from the exchange of products, ideas, cultures and world views, leads to the weakening of the local cultures of countries and the elimination of differences in order to create a uniform culture. In this context, it was considered that this project should be implemented in an international framework through intercultural information exchange in order to raise awareness among young people from different cultures on cultural heritage in order to protect the European common heritage to ensure that cultural heritage is preserved for the next generations.
