Objectives

Our students should gain personal experience on a broad basis, get involved in concrete (environmental) projects, exchange ideas with experts and other young people and thus develop personal awareness and a sustainable mindset. We also wanted to prepare our team of teachers for increasing digitalization and familiarize them with the latest scientific findings so that relevant material can be created for the classroom. The use of blended learning and should enable the virtual exchange of information, materials and relationship building within the European community for all participants. The use of English as the working language throughout the project was intended to reduce inhibitions, qualify all participants in the language and contribute to the naturalness of international exchange. Furthermore, by joining the Erasmus community and developing a deep understanding of our own history and that of our partners, we wanted to lay a foundation for learning to understand the big picture in Europe and to understand ourselves as European citizens.

Background

As a secondary school, we work with young people between the ages of 10 and 14 and saw it as our task to prepare them for the world of tomorrow. We know and knew that this world of tomorrow would change significantly, that it would be increasingly characterized by complexity and dynamics of change and that serious climate changes would take place. We therefore felt it was important for our students to develop awareness, critical and solution-oriented thinking about the importance of environmental issues, climate change and climate adaptation strategies through experience. It also became increasingly clear that digitalization is changing communication and penetrating many personal areas of people's lives. We considered it a key issue that education not only provides young people with basic knowledge, but also enables the importance and development of personal skills. Through the experiences in this project, the participants were empowered through deep learning, improved communication skills, increased openness, and European awareness to meet the challenges of the future.
