Objectives

By empowering teachers in blending their corona-gained-expertise with their post-corona classroom needs, 'Lessons Learned: moving on from corona?' aimed at increasing their digital readiness, resilience and capacity and at supporting them in the digital transformation in the post-corona era. We therefore wanted to develop an online professionalization course consisting of several themes and available for secondary school teachers as this way of learning allows teachers to learn at their own pace and needs. Main focus of the e-course had to be the pedagogical and didactical approach of using specific interactive and online tools in classroom or in a blended learning environment as we wanted to enforce secondary school teachers in their ability to implement their expertise concerning ICT supported learning in the most effective way in order to maximise the learning results.

Background

During the corona crisis, secondary schools across Europe have gone through a major change process. We all had to, rapidly, adjust the way we live, work and teach. There was barely time for reflection and looking back because new challenges, especially in the field of digitalisation emerged frequently. Each and every educator professionalised themselves in terms of online learning by following several webinars and finding inspiration with peers. As we returned back to 'normal', we wanted to take the time to look back: what did not work out? What do we want to maintain? And how do we ensure that we do not simply return to the ‘good old days’, but take truly sustainable steps to improve education? By implementing 'Lessons Learned: moving on from corona?' we wanted teachers to reflect on which knowledge and expertise is still relevant in the post-corona era and, in other words, on how it can be transferred to a live classroom or blended learning situation. Besides that, there were 3 more needs of today's society we wanted to address as blended learning can also contribute to a more sustainable (1) and inclusive (2) society and to bigger classrooms managed by less teachers (3), as it allows remote learning at the student's own pace.
