Under the theme “Europe in a Different Light”, the International youth conference of the European Youth Parliament in Kortrijk will bring together 230 young participants from 33 European countries. For the majority of participants, this will be the first time experiencing such an international environment and getting directly in touch with decision-makers. The realisation of Kortrijk 2022 will be the product of an experienced and dedicated young volunteer team that will strive from the very beginning to organise an event at the highest standard and guaranteeing an empowering environment. Kortrijk 2022 will attempt to push participants out of their comfort zones, encouraging them to discuss critical matters ranging from Economics, Culture, Politics, Science, Climate Crisis and Culture. Kortrijk 2022 aims to attract greater attention to issues and solutions provided by young Europe, whilst engaging senior political and policy-making actors from across the continent to facilitate and promote the results of the conference itself. At the same time, significant focus will be given to Belgium, as the host country, the vast historical and geographical importance of its location, its unending national attractions and beauties, and of course a welcoming environment for European youth. We believe that with this project, young people will be able to express their opinions, and will interact with the policy makers and decision makers, learning about democratic processes and active citizenship. The results of the project will be publically available and actively disseminated among the project partners and network of youth organisations, as well as shared with the decision makers, and the EYP network that includes more than 30.000 users on our internal member platform. During the follow-up event (not part of the application), the steering group of the project will reflect on all the evaluations and produce a post-project report with the best-practices. During seven working days, the event will create a unique parliamentary simulation for the young delegates to work together, learn from each other, and experience parliamentary democracy first hand. The programme is based on recurring needs analysis of our target group. Evaluations of past activities show our methodology has a proven track record of being successful. The participants will divide into fifteen international working groups to discuss current European topics and to draft a resolution by formulating their own ideas. They will also receive input and engage in dialogue with experts and decision-makers during this process. The resolutions will then be debated in an interactive two-day General Assembly, somewhat similar to those of the European Parliament, but developed to fit the target group. Additionally, the project will include a series of cultural events promoting intercultural exchange and dialogue and celebrating Europe’s rich cultural diversity, allowing participants to learn more about the culture of the host country. By participating in Kortrijk 2022, participants will go through a non-formal and informal learning experience aimed at promoting European citizenship, active participation, democratic procedures and values, and intercultural dialogue. Within the project, we wish to encourage young people to actively participate in discussions currently on the EU political agenda, and learn new skills through working in international multicultural teams on challenging political topics. The event is an entirely youth driven project, organised by active young volunteers aged between 16 and 26. EYP Belgium hosts the event and is supported by a steering group of close partners. A bigger group of 34 partners (from 33 countries) select participants from additional countries to Belgium, bringing a total of 33 countries together.
