Objectives

With the project, we wanted to bring the LGBTIQ+ School Ranking, that has been executed for the last 4 years in Poland, to other European countries. Therefore, we had decided to take Belgium, and specifically Brussels, as a good place for this pilot project. The Ranking of LGBTQ-friendly Schools is a community research which helps young people to choose a safe, friendly and open school environment. It gives young candidates to high schools additional information about the acceptance of the schools and therefore prevents the homo-, bi-and transphobic situations from happening, and helps schools to have a better idea of the LGBTIQ+ situation in their schools. The following objectives were achieved: 1. Closer contact between the Belgian Forbidden Colours and the Polish Growspace: In the fist half of 2022, the two organizations met on a weekly basis to prepare the School Ranking in both countries. A website was created (lgbtplusme.com) where students at selected schools in both countries could rank their school in accordance to LGBTIQ+ equality. In the second half, the organizations met every 2-3 weeks, to discuss the evaluation, analysis and future of the project. 2. Next to Poland, for the first time ever, an LGBTIQ+ School Ranking was made in Brussels: 13 schools were selected in Brussels to conduct a first School Ranking project. (Results in implementation) 3. There was inter-country exchange on inclusive education: An event was organized in Warsaw with all the youth coordinators in Poland of the LGBTIQ+ School Ranking were a representative of Forbidden Colours came to discuss the struggles and 'learned lessons' from the first time execution of the project in Brussels.
