Objectives

The GO project had 5 SMART objectives at the application stage: 1. To develop a one-stop shop presenting projects considered good practices in the area of career advising for disadvantaged groups. 2. To present practices and tools using different classifications to make it easy for career advisers to find the tools most applicable to them. 3. To develop awareness on the one-stop shop for career advisers and disadvantaged groups. This will be achieved through workshops in the countries of the consortium (career advisers), through a conference (career advisers & disadvantaged groups), and through dissemination and exploitation activities in other countries. 4.Through the use of the one-stop shop, to enhance the skills and knowledge of career advisers working with disadvantaged groups, which will lead to improved services provided by them. 5.To facilitate the inclusion of disadvantaged groups in the labour market and society through the provision of better career guidance services by advisers who will use the platform.

Background

In general, although lots of work is being implemented through European projects, often this cannot be easily located. It is very useful to have thematic platforms with well-evaluated projects, so that other stakeholders can use them, comment on them, improve them, and pilot test them in different settings. In this way, the platforms can become "communities of practice" where common knowledge and skills are being developed. Several projects have been implemented in the area of career advising: Some of them target the development of the career guidance professionals, some provide tools to career guidance professionals to use with beneficiaries and some develop tools to be used directly by beneficiaries. The motivation of the partnership was to have a shared pool (in the form of a web platform) of good practices and tools to be used in career advising for different types of disadvantaged groups but also to be able to test tools used for one disadvantaged group with another. This platform will be available and promoted to be used by other actors in the field, both inside and outside the consortium.
