Young people are suffering from high youth unemployment, precarious and exploitative working conditions as well as discrimination in the labour market and the workplace. The lack of information and suitable skills for future employment are preventing young people to be fully integrated in the labour market. Thus measures need to be taken in order to ensure quality employment for all. Youth is the key actors of tomorrow’s labour market, who will be responsible for sustainable development of economy. According to International Labour Organisation based on different scenarios for the impact of COVID-19 on global GDP growth, preliminary ILO estimates indicate a rise in global unemployment of between 5.3 million (“low” scenario) and 24.7 million (“high” scenario) from a base level of 188 million in 2021. Epidemics and economic crises can have a disproportionate impact on certain segments of the population, which can trigger worsening inequality. Based on past experience and current information on the COVID-19 pandemic and insights from previous crises, young persons, already facing higher rates of unemployment and underemployment, are more vulnerable to falling labour demand. In order to understand how this global problem affects our partner organizations on their level and what can be done to improve the situation, we conducted participants’ needs analysis. Each partner organization held a face-to-face interview with several active members/volunteers of the organization, where they discussed which competence and knowledge they need to work more effectively with young people and specific groups with fewer opportunities to help them with employment. Then we had an online meeting with 1 coordinator from each partner organization where we shared the results of these interviews and worked out common objectives for the project based on needs of beneficiaries. Common need of participants was to learn how to respond to the rapid labour market changes and rising rate of unemployment and migration by helping beneficiaries to see all above through the perspective of challenge and new opportunities rather than a problem and crisis and to deal with it, taking advantage for their own careers. Based on this, we define the aim of our project - to foster employability in a multicultural environment by equipping youth workers that work with young people and specific groups with fewer opportunities - migrants, refugees, minorities, people in long-term unemployment or with cultural inclusion problems - with necessary knowledge and skills. To teach them how to build individual career plan - relevant even in terms of labour market rapid changes and multicultural diversity. We created this project specifically for youth workers as they are in deep touch with beneficiaries in their countries and they know how to deliver the information and knowledge received during the training in the best way to make an impact on local youth and disadvantaged groups. The objectives of the project are to equip youth workers with the following skills and knowledge: • getting rid of stereotypes and negative experience for planning career in a most effective way; • finding resources in the past that can be used in the current and future work situation; • setting career goals using the language of the workspace: Me and People, Me and Workplace, Me and Skills, Me and my Purpose in life, Me and Knowledge, Me and level of responsibility, Me and preferred surroundings; • fighting with inner obstacles on the way of career development; • self-presentation competence, including creating high quality resume and motivational letter, interview tips and dealing with existing handicaps. Regarding the objectives of Erasmus+ programme our project tackle the following specific objectives: • to improve the level of key competencies and skills of people, including those with fewer opportunities; • to promote social inclusion and solidarity, in particular through increased learning mobility; • to develop intercultural competence for work in a multicultural environment; • to facilitate intercultural dialogue between countries-participants in the field of labour markets and to provide space for ideas and experience sharing and network building. After we defined our aim and objectives, we worked together with partner organizations on the content of the training course to enrich it with practical activities that correspond to the real needs of participants. We want with this project to respond to the rapid labour market changes, rising rate of unemployment and migration, help youth workers to see all above through the perspective of challenge and new opportunities rather than a problem and share this experience and knowledge with the groups they work with in their communities. The project is based on exchange of the experiences of participating countries, ideas, best practices, suggestions - how to deal with youth unemployment.
