Objectives

In 2018, the school prepared the European Development Plan, which we updated in 2021. We used that plan for setting the goals for this project. We wanted to internationalize the school, to improve the quality of teaching with an emphasis on the English language. Goals for participants (some not related to pupils): - increase language competence, especially communicative - learn about innovative methodological procedures and methods, which are often transferable to other subjects and usable in the processing of teaching materials for bilingual classes - get acquainted with the professional terminology of a subject - get new teaching materials - get information about the educational systems of European countries - exchange experiences from pedagogical practice - establish contacts for international network and projects - get an overview of educational materials and portals - get to know the culture of the visited country For educators, we had differentiated goals for improving language competences: Qualified language teacher - refresh knowledge, focus mainly on methodology Other teachers - to improve mainly in language competences Pupils - to improve the ability to communicate and cooperate in English and in a team

Background

The organization consists of a primary school and a kindergarten. There are usually 2 regular classes and 1 class with bilingual education in each grade. Special classes are set up for pupils with speech disorders, in which pupils with other problems can be integrated (hearing impairment, autism spectrum disorder). At the end of the fifth grade, pupils return to their mainstream schools, continue in another school in a special class, and most students stay and are integrated into the regular class of our school. Pupils with learning disabilities or with milder other limitations are integrated in regular classes and bilingual classes. We teach English, Russian and Spanish. Assistant teachers work at the school too. We are introducing tandem teaching. In some cases, bilingual education is also organized in a regular class, in a maximum of 2 subjects, with the consent of legal representatives. It is more common to apply the CLIL method in these classes. Pupils can attend afternoon clubs, such as dance, choir singing, folklore, board games, gymnastics, handicrafts, or computer science club. We also cooperate with other entities, e.g. sport and cultural organisation T.J.Sokol Vítkovice, Football Club Ostrava-Jih, Judo Baník.
