Objectives

The project mainly followed the internationalization of the school and its involvement in European projects. Th e aim was to motivate students to study in a foreign language, to study at foreign schools, to use new technologies (e-Twinning) within European projects, to strengthen values such as respect for other nations and differences, to strengthen independent acting and presentation, to get to know with other teaching methods and other educational systems. Last but not least, it was also about deepening teamwork and strengthening and maintaining international cooperation between schools and among the pupils themselves. In the case of individual mobilities, direct participation in teaching should bring students to a real environment, show them what the priorities and requirements are for students in another country. Contact with students' families was also important.

Background

Gymnázium Hladnov a JŠ is a publi secondary school located in Ostrava, in the Moravian-Silesian Region. We offer three fields of study: a six-year bilingual Czech-Spanish study, a four-year general study and a four-year general study with extended English language instruction. Since 2011, the school has included a state language school, which offers courses for state and international language exams. Students of two study programs were actively involved in the project: general with extended English teaching and bilingual, which includes intensive teaching of the Spanish language in the first two years and teaching of STEM subjects, history and geography in Spanish from the 3rd year. The project of short-term as well as group and long-term mobility was closely related to the nature of the fields of study; for all types of mobilities, it was not only about deepening and broadening the language knowledge of the participants, but also about getting to know a different educational system as well as a different cultural and social context; part of it was intensive contact with students' families. For individual mobilities, active participation in classes provided students with a real language and educational environment.
