Objectives

The main objective of the project was to create the methodology for voluntary team-leaders of international voluntary project and implement it to training for team-leaders. The goal of the methodology was to prepare the team-leaders for leading the group of volunteers in which also volunteers with fewer opportunities and/or special needs are present. By providing the team-leaders with the adequate preparation, we wanted to follow the wider aim that volunteers with fewer opportunities and/or special need will feel included and be part of the group, will gain support from team-leaders they need, international volunteering will be for them full experience thanks to that they will also to talk about it with their peers to motivate them to participate international voluntary project too. By creating the methodology, we also aimed to encourage the team-leaders to lead projects where participants with fewer opportunities and/or special needs are present, and also support the whole group to take advantage of the enriching potential of being part of "inclusive" group. Other objective we wanted to aim, was to create methodology which will be useful not only to project organization but will be useful also for other voluntary organizations.

Background

One of the goal of INEX-SDA and partner consortium is to provide with the possibility of international volunteering all the people regardless their background, religion, nationality and physical condition. Therefore, we welcome on all our voluntary projects (workcamps, ESC volunteering teams, trainigs) people with fewer opportunities and special needs, and also it is visible that within the last years, their numbers are increasing. But it is also necessary to create a welcoming and open environment and provide volunteers with suitable support they need on the projects. On the spot, it is mainly up to voluntary team-leaders who are taking of the group and individuals during the projects. Up to us, as coordination is to provide the team-leaders with suitable preparation before the projects so they are able to handle the group with volunteers with fewer opportunities and/or special needs. By this project we addressed the need of organizations to have methodology for preparation of team-leaders and through that the need of volunteers with fewer opportunities and/or special needs to be able to fully participate in voluntary projects to gain deep and full experience from it.
