Objectives

The objectives were to carry out and evaluate a pilot training course for coaches who were to learn how to support refugees and immigrants in their particular situation on the labour market. Coaching sessions were to be accompanied as part of the training programme. In subsequent interviews with the immigrant coachees, the aim was to examine the extent to which coaching fulfils a special quality alongside other existing counselling services for migrants. The project results were to be disseminated in written analyses and an online final conference.

Background

The main problem addressed by the project is the difficult position that refugees and migrant skilled workers have on the labour markets in Europe. Qualitative and quantitative studies show that very many immigrants from third countries, even highly qualified ones, are unable to find a job commensurate with their qualifications and skills. Many experience a devaluation of their qualifications and skills as a result of migration. Migration is also accompanied by a loss of social capital. It is therefore important to develop individual strategies for shaping one's professional biography in order to realise one's own professional goals. The idea was to establish an individual career coaching for migrant professionals through targeted further training for coaches.
