Objectives

The aim of the EU project “Career Intelligence” was to promote career guidance and career planning for young people across Europe and to promote the meaningful use of artificial intelligence (AI) in vocational education and training in the long term and sustainably. The starting point was the “Career 4.0” learning platform, which has already been successfully tested in seven EU countries. By implementing a virtual learning assistant, learning and feedback processes were improved in relation to the development of a personal development plan. A motivating learning environment was created in which young people and learning guides can interact, test and reflect on AI-supported learning technologies. In addition, a methodological-didactic program for skills development in the form of self-learning modules for educational stakeholders (e.g. learning guides, vocational and career counselors, (vocational) schools) was developed and evaluated. The aim was to qualify them for the application of AI and IT solutions in vocational training in order to provide learners with more individual support. Finally, the project has made a major contribution to the establishment of a Europe-wide network of mentors and experts in particular.

Background

The motivation behind the “Career Intelligence” project was to improve vocational education and training in light of the increasing relevance of artificial intelligence (AI). The project also responds to the need to adapt learning and career guidance processes more closely to the individual needs of learners. Technologies such as learning analytics, intelligent virtual learning assistants, adaptive learning systems and AI-supported recommendation systems offer promising approaches for this. The use of modern technologies requires advanced digital skills. This results in the need to develop educational offerings and promote the necessary methodological, didactic and digital skills of educational stakeholders. This is not only about the technical implementation of AI solutions in the educational process, but above all about the targeted use of their innovation and design potential for learners and teachers. In line with the EU's Digital Education Plan 2021-2027, the project thus addresses two key needs: (1) the improvement and more intensive use of digital technologies and (2) the development and expansion of advanced digital skills.
