Objectives

Although young people have to deal with technological issues every day, they often don't know about the potential behind the different gadgets. Especially the skill to code provides the possibility to create new websites, robotics, AI, or games. You can not only be creative, but even generate true value out of it. If you just want to get hired, finding a job with coding skills is way easier than without. We thought Youth Work in general can contribute to a very high extent to the acquisition of these skills and complement formal education. Increasing the excitement about technologies, digital skills and future issues was the main goal of this Youth Exchange. The participating young people acquired basic skills and knowledge in many fields of this topic. In our project, we shared knowledge about the variety of possibilities behind coding and digital knowledge in general. We also showed that these hard skills of programming and IT competences can also be employed for civil activism. Global problems like climate change can also be addressed with new technologies. The participants exchanged on climate change, pollution and related issues in their communities. With a Sensebox and practical workshops by the participants and experts of the TechAgency Tbilisi, we explored the practical applicability of the topic. The Youth Exchange happened with partners from Program and Partner Countries in Tbilisi/Georgia and used different non-formal methods. The concrete objectives were: The participants know about the basics of programming and working with robotics They created their own little website or app project as a group Developing a Digital Toolbox for young activists Connecting the hard skills (coding, robotics, etc.) with civil activism regarding climate change and environment The participants get to know different digital tools and assess them critically They got in contact with professional developers and IT experts and learn about this career path They see coding as a relevant skill and hobby at the same time Risen awareness about different ethical questions (AI, IoT, robotics, algorithms, social media, cybersecurity) Increased English language skills, critical thinking, employability, intercultural awareness and ability to teamwork.
