Objectives

The main aim of the Youth Exchange was to explore the benefits of volunteerism and how it can be used as a tool for building and developing skills, as well as, as a tool for fighting social exclusion. The supporting objectives of the project were: ● highlighting positive benefits of volunteering for the volunteers themselves, for the communities, and the world in general. ● developing new knowledge and skills useful in achieving social and personal changes through volunteering. ● empowering the exchange of voluntary experiences and opportunities among young people. ● promoting active citizenship, social responsibility as well as social inclusion. ● promoting the Erasmus+ Programme, the European Solidarity Corps (ESC), Erasmus Internship, and non-formal education in general. ● strengthening the respect for cultural diversity and increasing participants’ intercultural competencies. ● promoting social inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, especially the ones facing social, economic, and geographical obstacles. ● empowering young people by promoting volunteering and actively participating in their local communities through organizing local initiatives. ● engaging socially excluded groups of young people to participate in local voluntary initiatives. To reach the above-mentioned objectives, we used a wide range of non-formal methods such as learning to learn, peer-to-peer education, creative workshops, outdoor activities, etc. The main sessions were divided into three pillars: 1. Discussing volunteerism and its core benefits. 2. Discussing social inclusion and using volunteerism as a tool for combating social inclusion. 3. Sharing and creating different volunteer opportunities for youth. Those three pillars allowed us to create a 365-degree overview of volunteering, which allowed participants to fully recognize all the benefits of volunteering and how those skills can be applied when looking for employment opportunities, increasing the social inclusion of disadvantaged and marginalized groups, tackling matters of the local societies, as well as encouraging them to be actors for positive change by implementing the local voluntary initiatives. Based on the overall interest of the participants in the project topic, their motivation during the activities, and the feedback provided by the participants during and after the youth exchange, we believe that the activity met the previously set objectives.
