Comparing today's world with the world from 20-30 or even 10 years ago seems very different. The expectations towards young people are very high. They shall learn several languages at a young age, go to school or university 8 hours a day and additionally have homework, assignments and tasks to do after getting home. They communicate via social media and are confronted with fake news, seemingly perfect body images and a lot of commercials. Their schedules are planned for weeks ahead, if not months and they don't have free time. Plus, the pressure of society and the images on social media, are not to be happy or fulfilled, but to be a successful young person. The goal is to look good, have good grades, find a job or have many extra curricular activities. All of this sounds really good and it is accepted in our society. However, many of them have fears about their future, get heavily depressed, have anxiety disorders and see themselves as failures if they don't fulfill those high expectations. Especially throughout the pandemic, these struggles developed and the numbers of depression at a young age increased. Social isolation, taking drugs and dropping out of school are the effects. We wanted to prevent these behavior issues and concentrate on mental and physical health. We wanted to show to young people how spending time outside with their friends, taking a walk and doing physical activities in general will improve not just their physical health, but also their mental. Young people have a lot of responsibilities, but rarely tools in how to take care of their emotional and spiritual well-being. Our main objectives were: 1. Raising awareness among young people about their status of mental and physical health 2. Raising awareness among parents about the well-being of their children 3. Give tools to young people how to handle their responsibilities and priorities. 4. Encourage young people to become more active and spend more time in nature 5. Multiply and share the results from this project in the local societies of participants and partner organizations Awareness is the key word to address the issues because most people are not equipped to listen to their bodies correctly and recognize signs of stress, bad nutrition oder not enough sleep and movement. We wanted to reconnect them to their bodies and hope they multiply the results in their local communities and peers. Moreover, the topic is now more important than ever. This is a common project idea of a group of youth workers who were meeting during the Covid-19 pandemic and experiencing rising problems among the young people in their organisations. With this youth exchange, we wanted to create a supportive community and to give to young people the opportunity to socialize, learn together and become active in their local communities, and to bring a much-needed positive change.
