Objectives

The project “Youth around Borders” was a youth exchange project that aimed to gather 40 young people between 16 and 26 years old from 4 countries (Germany, Poland, Morocco and Spain) to reflect and create a guide of good habits in relationships among people and communities in border areas. The project was implemented in Germany and Morocco. In the border towns of Frankfurt (Oder) with Slubice and Tetouan with Ceuta. During twenty days the participants did a lot of activities. They spend ten days in Frankfurt (Oder) and ten days in Tetouan. The activities we carried out were aimed at bringing young people closer to border reality. We analyzed and reflected on the cultural, economic and social impact of borders. They got to know each other, build one team, make a trustful and supportive atmosphere, learn new things, share skills among each other and prepare workshops and activities. With this project we wanted to achieve some specific objectives: - Develop a skill set and attitudes such as self-reliance, border awareness, cross-cultural communication and competences in a diverse range of areas (their human capital). - Raise awareness of human rights and promote intercultural understanding. - Combats negative perception of specific groups among youngsters. - Develops critical thinking and strengthens their network and social capital. - Change particular behaviours (such as intolerant behaviours) - Build positive relationships. - Empower young people. We also wanted to provide the accessible opportunities for young people and support their willingness to face and bring effective positive societal change. While improving their personal and cultural development. We expected that they will increase the active responsible citizenship as diversity and non-discrimination in society. We were also including people with fewer opportunities as a part of our target group, for them this project was of greatest value. The impact of the project was really visible taking into account the differences between the communities in the border with Germany-Poland and Morocco-Spain. Frankfurt (Oder) and Slubice are cities that do not just share values and interest, they call themselves twin cities as a way to understand the connection that exists between them. Our participants had a chance to develop and display their empathy, critical thinking and emotional intelligence and got a chance to make an exhibition to share what they have learnt and how they see things with others . Additionally we also wanted to focus on sharing and spreading the information about international mobilities and EU values with young people. They learned how to take pictures with meanings related to diversity and multiculturalism and they had the opportunity to show and reflect what they have learned in an exhibition. They also improved their tolerance, self-confidence and leadership. The target group had the opportunity to teach or share their knowledge and skills, thus to develop leadership skills.
