Objectives

The project, "Share your story: Youth, Inclusion and Storytelling", was an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange that included 50 participants from 8 European countries and non-European countries. The context revealed that although equity and inclusion were among the basic human rights, the existence of marginalization, vulnerability, and discrimination persisted. Over the past decades, significant positive changes had occurred in global development in the European context, such as better access to education and information, a greater provision of resources, and technological innovations, among others. However, these transitions did not eradicate inequity and social exclusion. Many people, especially those affected by poverty, disabilities or chronic illness, the elderly, specific religious, gender, and ethnic groups, or those residing in peripheral areas, were unable to benefit from today’s advances and remained excluded from numerous opportunities and services available to more advantaged segments of society. The aim of the project was to introduce and promote storytelling as a means to address social exclusion and inequity in society by empowering young people and providing them with competencies to use it in future actions within their local communities, thus encouraging them to become active citizens. The objectives of the project were closely linked to those of the Erasmus+ program and Key Action 1: - Empowering and giving voice to those who had experienced inequity and social exclusion, came from disadvantaged backgrounds, or faced obstacles due to personal, economic, cultural, health-related, social, or geographic difficulties. - Designing and developing initiatives to promote social inclusion of vulnerable groups and enable them to become more active actors in society and democratic life. - Equipping participants with knowledge about the non-formal method of storytelling and providing hands-on experience with the method. - Promoting cross-cultural interactions and fostering intercultural dialogue by engaging the local community and raising cultural awareness. - Introducing the Erasmus+ Programme and its possibilities for learning, development, and participation to youngsters across Europe. - Encouraging cooperation and exchange of methods and experiences between NGOs from Program Countries.
