The German-Spanish youth exchange "Lonely? Together! - How can we support each other / No estás solo!" took place from 25.10. to 04.11.2022 in Hütten and Halle, Saale. The target group consisted of 26 young people from Spain and Germany - most of them with special needs. After cancellations and postponements due to the pandemic, this youth exchange was supposed to take place in spring 2022. Due to the outbreak of war in Ukraine and the associated concerns of the parents of the Spanish participants, the meeting had to be postponed to November 2022. Both the Spanish and the German young people come from a socially disadvantaged area. The encounter offered marginalized young people with learning difficulties or social difficulties a framework to identify new opportunities for personal development. The focus is on the integration of young people affected by social exclusion and the reflection of good coexistence (especially at school). Furthermore the promotion of respect and solidarity between young people from different countries, with different socio-demographic backgrounds and the work against racist and xenophobic tendencies. We motivated young people with learning difficulties to continue learning and opened up new perspectives for them. In addition, we offer young people a framework in which they could reflect on their situation and their difficulties at school. Together, the participants develop possibilities for action to improve their situation. In recent years, we have received many complaints from students about unfair treatment, violence and discrimination at school. Bullying is a serious problem and teachers often do not have enough room for maneuver. With our project we want to create the basis for a good coexistence (in the classroom) and support students with special needs. We deal with the (re)discovery of our own cultural identity and reflect in order to develop new perspectives on our diverse society. In thematic workshops we deal with individual experiences of exclusion (When are/were you excluded? At what points did you exclude another person?) and develop ideas together with participants so that they are empowered to influence their local environment and can argue for the preservation of human rights and mutual tolerance. The participants have critically reflected on their previous routines of action and recognize options for their further path in life. They are empowered to implement the (self-efficacy) experiences gained during the exchange in their everyday lives. Through the on-site cooperation, a network of pedagogical professionals was able to achieve a sustainable impact. The participants dealt with the topic of "mutual support" in different ways and at different locations: • Values & Rules in Family and School • Language animation • Crisis intervention animation • Joint creative workshops • Various experiential education methods, • Visiting places of remembrance • Exploration of the rural area The activities are designed to promote intercultural dialogue (regular language animation, holding intercultural evenings, methods of intercultural youth work) and facilitate reaching out to each other. Participants improve their cooperative and communicative skills and gain confidence and self-esteem. They deal with topics and issues in an international and multilingual group and broaden their perspectives and world view. With the help of the creative workshops, participants prepare an interactive afternoon to present results of their group work. With this educational experience, we offer young people who are at risk of social exclusion or already or are already socially excluded, new opportunities for personal development. We contribute to the questioning of racist tendencies and xenophobia among the participants. are questioned. We enable young people with learning difficulties to gain new learning experiences and open up alternative (vocational) prospects for the future.
