Bridging intercultural, intergenerational and social divideDigital skills and competencesPreventing racism and discrimination

Objectives

Our societies are changing, we are living in a more globalized world and in societies that have more ethnic diversities. The number of people who have a migration background is also increasing in every country. Our environment is now more international and multicultural. However, there is also an increasing trend of racism and racial- discrimination in many societies. This trend emerges as a problem preventing cultural diversity, tolerance, and togetherness of individuals and threatens the harmony of our societies. In this project, we aimed to strengthen our attitude against all forms of discrimination, especially racial discrimination and xenophobia. This project realized a youth exchange activity that focuses on the issue of racial discrimination. The project also aimed to highlight European democratic values. The terms Democracy and democratic inclusion were also other related concepts that required to be highlighted too. The project aimed to increase the awareness of individuals and to make them more conscious regarding the issue. There are some notions that are promoted by the project. Some of these notions are; intercultural dialog, tolerance, togetherness, European citizenship awareness, European identity, the commitment to be against all forms of discrimination, etc. In addition to the requirement of being together to be better, there was also a requirement of being digitally active, in this age of technology. The ability to create digital content is a requirement for many to express themselves in a more creative and unique way. Because of that, this project aimed to provide a theoretical and practical background for participants in the area of discrimination and to develop their digital content creation skills to reflect their acquired knowledge in a creative way. Because of that, this project also had the objective of improving the participants' digital skills to encourage them to be a part of the attitude against discrimination. To be able to do that, the project program included a training course on 'photography '', so that the participants of the project could be able to combine the theoretical and digital knowledge attained in the project and create digital content which is concerning racial discrimination. For us, the only way to combat discrimination and xenophobia was to increase the awareness of individuals. Because of that, the first activity days of the project will contribute to the theoretical knowledge of individuals with panels, seminars, and workshops. In the upcoming project days, participants would be equipped with photography training. This helped project participants to express their concerns regarding racial discrimination, highlight the requirement for more tolerance, and explore their creativity. The project also included various forms of non-formal education methods such as informative visits, seminars, discussion rounds, and movie sessions. Participants of the project visited two institutions in Frankfurt to extend their vision to be more open to other nationals and traditions. The project required a final product from each participant of the project so that they will be able to combine their theoretical knowledge with their digital skills and have a word against discrimination. To create this final work, participants of the project will turn around the streets of Wiesbaden. They will be able to explore the city of Wiesbaden and create creative content against discrimination. It is a requirement to state that the project will help project participants to discover other cultures, to understand being together despite differences, to support more tolerance and respect, to have the idea of being a European citizen, to have responsibility of European citizenship, to be able to communicate in a foreign language, to have a foreign country experience, to create contacts from various backgrounds.
