With the implementation of this project, HeArt: Healing with Art –we aim to offer young people tools that will help them on a personal level, to be able to distinguish their emotions and express them in a healthy way, and to deal with situations of stress or anxiety in a more effective way through art. We also offer them tools that can help them at work, finding ways to communicate with people with mental disorders and to be able to support them. We also aim to make young people aware of the importance of mental health and to stop treating it as a taboo subject, developing the empathic capacity of the participants. The aim of the project, apart from the aforementioned, is that the young participants can create a decalogue connecting different mental disorders and how different artistic disciplines can help to improve them. With this project we do not only aim to help the young participants, but also to offer the youth workers the possibility to improve their work in recognising and acting on possible mental disorders of the people they work with by means of different methods. Through this project we 'd like to : To increased self-empowerment and self-esteem in young people by offering them the necessary tools to boost their personal growth, in order torecognise and express their emotions in a healthy way and to develop awareness about the importance of mental health in our society, de-stigmatising mental disorders. Other objectives of the project are: To strengthen intercultural bonds and friendships To experience the european spirit, EU values and the Programme To improving English skills To gain intercultural competencies To have equal opportunities and access. Recent research shows that arts promote mental health. A study made by University of Calgary in 2020 found that in art therapy, which applies arts-based techniques (like painting, dancing and role play) the that relationship between the arts and mental health is well established as evidence-based interventions for mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. During this project we will mainly work on the following mental disorders; anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, eating disorders, developmental disorders (autism), sexual dysfunction, phobic disorders and alcoholism. We have chosen these disorders following research and discussions with psychologists, who have concluded that these disorders may be the ones most affecting young people today. We are 8 partners in this project and have chosen to tackle 8 different types of disorders. To talk about these disorders, we will mainly use the art methods mentioned above; music, theatre, dance, painting, sculpture, etc. But we will also be open for participants to offer new perspectives, which is why, within the programme for the activity, there are open spaces for participants to propose new elements they would like to work on.
