Objectives

In the previous year(s) the Covid pandemic affected especially young people: leisure time with friends were replaced by video games, movie screenings, online meetings or in the worst case with solitude; meetings and common learning with friends in schools or universities were replaced by online lectures and home studies. For many youngsters this resulted in a negative effect regarding their mental health. The world is slowly opening up again and youth workers have a special responsibility to step in and address the negative effects that the pandemic had on their target group. We think that in contrast to sitting in front of a screen, spending time in nature can contribute to our well-being and especially to those of young people. In general the colour “green” has a positive calming and vitalising effect. Spending time in nature can help to “charge our batteries” and find inspiration for our lives. Outdoor activities can help to achieve inner harmony and lead to self-discovery and generally contribute to wellbeing and a balanced lifestyle. Within our network we exchanged how we youth workers experienced the pandemic and how it affected our target group. We agreed that outdoor activities can contribute to a strong mental health and general well-being. For this reason we decided to build up our capacities in terms of Outdoor Education and to organise this project. We identified the following objectives: - Promoting outdoor education as an inclusive tool in youth work; - Equipping participants with skills for outdoor education including preparation of activities, risk assessment, health and safety measures, and outdoor methods; - Reflecting on the learning benefits of using the outdoors: health, lifestyle, connecting to nature, protecting the environment, fighting global warming; - Exchanging on lessons learnt from the pandemic and the effects on our target groups - Increasing youth participation through outdoor education; - Reflecting on the use of outdoor education in Erasmus + projects; - Developing further cooperation of partner promoter in the field of outdoor education including Erasmus+ project such as Youth Exchanges and volunteering projects
